Lao Tzu
Today I’d wish to concentrate on a negative habit that creates insecurity inside, erodes self-esteem and might make you’re feeling quite unhappy together with your own life.
It’s something that has sprung up as we have now moved an element of our lives on to the web and social media.
And that habit is to match yourself and your life to other people’s highlight reels.
What do I mean by that?
That it’s really easy to begin comparing your life to the lives of friends, old classmates or celebrities of all sizes as you every day see how perfect their homes, kids, love lives are and the way filled their lives are with wonderful moments.
But is that their whole lives that’s shared on Facebook and Instagram?
Usually not.
It’s just the highlight reel of that person’s life. The positive moments.
And it’s natural thing really, to need to share such moments or days with your pals or followers.
Now, for some people this will become something destructive.
Into a way of making a more perfect image of 1’s life to get that hit of fast gratification as people add positivity via comments, likes and upvotes.
But everyone has problems at times.
They fail. Get sick. Have flaws, bad days or negative habits.
No matter who you might be or what you appear like or do.
I actually have those issues too. Just like anyone else.
I still stumble and fall on some days. Doubt myself or am pessimistic every now and then. That’s human.
So don’t strive for being perfect or measuring yourself against another person’s highlight reel.
Here are three healthier steps you possibly can take as an alternative:
Step 1: Compare in a better way.
There will all the time be individuals who have more or nicer things than you.
Or are higher than you at something. No matter what you do.
So if you desire to compare then do it in a way that won’t make you’re feeling envious and inferior.
Do it by comparing yourself to yourself. See how far you’ve got come. Look back on the obstacles you’ve got overcome, what you’ve got learned and the way you’ve got grown.
Step 2: Spend your energy and time on what matters probably the most.
Step by step spend the hours in your day and week on constructing habits that can make you a greater person and a happier one too.
For example, aim at being optimistic 70% of the time if you’ve got been it possibly 50% previously month.
Or spend more of your weekly free time in your favorite hobby or on sharpening a useful skill.
Step 3: Let go of what drags you down.
If vital unsubscribe or remove social media accounts out of your feed if you happen to feel they’re dragging you down and lowering your self-esteem. Even if those things may also be entertaining right away.
Life isn’t only a highlight reel irrespective of who shares it.
So look beyond that, do not forget that everyone seems to be human and stop comparing yourself to that limited view of somebody.
In the long term you’ll be pleased that you simply did.
